Silent Film Feedback Reflection

We have gotten back feedback for our silent film. Our audience (class 7F) thought that our actions were good, as in they were exaggerated and clearly states what the character was feeling. Unfortunately, I don’t think this applies to me much. After watching it, I feel like I was keeping inside my safety zone. Our audience also said that the sound effects were efficient. I wished we used more sound effects but the one that we did use emphasized our actions. For example, when the waiter (Nick) threw the utensils at us, we got a clank noise, to make it seem a bit worse than it actually was. I’m glad that our audience liked the costumes we used. The costume I had to wear was normal clothes, to make it seem like I’m an ordinary customer at a restaurant, it was pretty easy to get.
They also thought that the roles we have included in our film were a good choice. I partly agree with what they said. They were simple roles, and different, too. But I wish we had included the manager (Caitlin) more in our silent film. The manager doesn’t show up until the third scene, and didn’t do anything exciting. After listening to our audience’s opinion, I understand that we had quite a few problems with editing. We made the text section and the waiting section too long. I agree that looking at a screen for 10 seconds that doesn’t really change is a bit boring. We also had trouble with the music transitions. Our transitions between the music are sudden, so it makes the silent film sound ‘bulky’. But, the music itself was fine. We also had some trouble with filming. The camera was a bit shaky and it was sometimes not focused on us, but more of the background. And because it was a cafeteria we were filming in, there were other people in the background – staring at us because we were doing unusual things. So it made the silent film unrealistic. The plot was pretty simple but there were some details that didn’t fit. For example, we ordered muffins, and muffins don’t make much of a mess. We also had ketchup, which didn’t fit with muffins. And lastly, and probably most importantly, I had some trouble at one point keeping in role. I know I smiled after I got hit with a muffin. I was supposed to look upset.
Even if this was my first time filming a silent film, I think I had more negative feedback than positive feedback. I hope to switch that around (more positive than negative) next time.
Thanks for reading on my blog!
