In Humanities, we learned the format for academic essays, the format that we would use for the rest of our time in Canadian International School, at least. Before I state the format, I would like to say "An essay is like a hamburger". Without the bun of a hamburger, it wouldn't be satisfying, or having only the bun of the hamburger, wouldn't be satisfying as well.
INTRODUCTION
-A Hook (optional): something to capture the reader's attention, ex. an interesting fact
-A Topic Sentence: present a topic with a topic sentence / thesis statement, concise and explains essay
-Road Map: direction of the essay, 1 sentence, tells the reader about the body paragraphs
BODY
-Intro Sentence: what the paragraph is about
-Supporting Details: supports the argument
-Concluding Sentence: Summarizes paragraph
Note: Each new big idea requires a new paragraph
CONCLUSION
-Summary: summarizes the main idea
-Answer: an answer for the topic question
