Grade 7 Showcase

Highlights of Grade 7
Grand Hyatt Jazz Band Performance
This was a performance the Jazz Band did. Our job was to entertain the guests at the hotel while they eat food, celebrating “The 21st Great Chefs of Hong Kong”. We all practiced hard for the weeks leading up to this performance, we had to learn 3 new songs in that time. However, it was a lot of fun performing and after we did our job, we got to eat some of the food as well.
Because of all the performances we’ve done in the 2nd semester, such as the Alan Dick Memorial Walk performance and the Evening of the Arts performance, I had felt much more comfortable performing at the Grand Hyatt. At the Jazz Band performances, I was playing an alto saxophone. The reason why I joined Jazz Band was because they needed an extra sax. So, I decided to learn this new instrument (before I was playing the clarinet), and in less than a month, I had my first performance with that instrument!

Hiking
In the 1st semester I had joined the Hiking Club. I had just entered the MYP program, and I hardly knew any teachers or students from the Upper School. However, everyone made me feel welcomed! The Hiking Club was a new club, and it didn’t have many people; 5-10. Whenever there was a hike, I always showed up! Sadly, the Hiking Club president will be leaving the school, he is in Grade 12, next year, there will be a new president. The hike that I found most enjoyable was the Dragon’s Back. After our long hike, we ended up at Big Wave Beach, where I played in the refreshing waves. I was quite nervous, at first, when joining the Hiking Club.

Beijing Trip

This was my third school trip at CDNIS. I met new people in my grade, and I socialized with more people. We went to the Great Wall, Tian ‘An Men Square, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven and more! I enjoyed this trip very much. If I could go on this trip again, I would sleep earlier, we needed all the energy we could get in the day. My favorite part was hiking on the Great Wall! I was a risk-taker on this trip. For example, I ate a leg of a scorpion! It tasted somewhat like crab.
I’ll definitely be looking forward to next year’s school trip!

The MYP Play
This year was my first year of having a Drama course. My sister had always auditioned for all the musicals and MYP plays. However, you can’t audition for the plays or musicals until you’re in upper school. So once I got into Grade 7, the first year of MYP, I worked hard in Drama class and improved my skills with each class. By November, I was able to participate in a physical theater workshop. By the time auditions began, I was ready. As a result from all my hard work, I was able to get a role in the MYP Play named Silver Screen.
The Silver Screen was about 3 teenagers sneaking into an abandoned, old theater and then they managed to enter a movie, Starwars. They meet Buster, an old man who manages the theater now, and they try to stop the evil plans of Kane, the villain.
In the play, I had 2 roles; a cowboy and a zombie, however, my main role was a cowboy, I was one of the “Three Amigos”.
