Course Overviews



SCIENCE: The course investigates the topic of scientific method, matter and energy, earth's crust and structures. Students develop the skills of inquiry laboratory technique, scientific language, and applying science to global issues.

MATHEMATICS: The course reinforces and develops the foundations of basic mathematics. Students learn about patterns and relationships and are introduced to the practical use of technology when solving problems  in a variety of contexts.
DRAMA: The course introduces students to communicating physically, Comedia dell'Arte and script work. Students explore mime, movement, voice, expression, and character development. There is an emphasis on risk-taking and focused performance.
MUSIC: The course strengthens learning and understanding how music is an essential component of "being human". Students explore music communication, expression and description of experiences through study, playing and writing music.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: The course aims to develop "intelligent performers" and focuses upon the importance of a balanced, long-term healthy lifestyle. Students develop knowledge, critical thinking and reflection skills, and inter-personal and self-motivational skills.
MANDARIN - STANDARD: The course provides students with experiences that will enable them to use oral and written forms of basic communication in a variety of contexts, dealing with experiences associated with Season & Color, Hobby & Interests and Chinese culture.
FRENCH - STANDARD: The focus of the course is to provide students with simple structures of French grammar that will enable them to identify, describe, and characterize people, objects, places and events. Some aspects of French culture will be studied.
ENGLISH: The course aims to develop language as a vehicle for thought, creativity, reflection learning and self-expression. Students explore a variety of texts and are expected to develop their research and writing skills in greater depth.
HUMANITIES: The course introduces the fields of geography and history. Basic geographical concepts are emphasized along with themes of geographical inquiry. Students explore world history with a focus research and writing skills.
TECHNOLOGY: This course introduces students to the Design Cycle and its application across disciplines to solve authentic problems. Though a range of projects students develop technical and creative technical skills.
