I have made a mask in Visual Arts, and I was required to evaluate my mask. So here it is...
- My mask’s theme is “Cree”. I choose the theme Cree because I’m in the Cree House. Being in a “Cree House” represents the time I’ve been here at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong. To express this theme, I included the symbol of Cree, and a raven. I included a raven because the animal the Cree symbol represents is a raven. The Cree color is yellow, therefore the half of the mask on which the Cree symbol contained was painted yellow. The color of a raven is black, so the color on which the raven was contained was painted black. To show that there is a connection of these two birds, I made the black colored background fade into the yellow background. To emphasize that my artwork was a mask, I used metallic paper to outline the facial features. Since I also wanted to emphasize the Cree symbol and raven, I outlined that as well. Modifications I made to my mask is that I cutout the Cree and raven, instead of leaving it a blank space. And for the background I used paint instead of crayons, so that the glue I would put on in the end wouldn’t smudge the whole mask. The outline for the facial features were outlined in the metallic paper instead of black crayon. And lastly, I had to change the tin foil I was planning to use to metallic paper, due to tin foil being inaccessible.
2. For Criteria A-Knowledge and Understanding, I give myself a mark of 6/8
- For Criteria B-Application, I give myself a mark of 6/10
Strengths: Creativity... Using metallic paper to outline the facial features, raven and Cree symbol, was something no one else thought of. Cutting out the raven and Cree symbol, instead of keeping the whole and original mask shape
Weaknesses: Use of material... I didn’t use many materials, so there wasn’t as much contrast on the raven and Cree as I intended to have.
How to improve: Using a variety of materials, make contrast on the most important concepts of the mask.
- For Criteria D-Personal Engagement, I give myself a mark of 8/8
Strengths: Getting my mask done... I felt very enthusiastic about this mask project, so I was looking forward to working on my mask; it was a very enjoyable project. As a result, I was able to meet the deadline because of this.
Weaknesses: Talking... Although the occurrence of this is spread out, I sometimes can get off topic when I’m supposed to be working.
How to improve: Staying completely on task... Next time, I’ll always be on task, I will talk, but I will still be working.
